Daniel Pitín – Kunstwerke | Prague, Czech republic | hunt kastner artworks | 05/06 - 28/07/12
Kunstwerke – an installation of new paintings, collages and video work by the painter Daniel Pitín at hunt kastner. The exhibition’s content can be viewed as both a reflection on the trauma of modern Euro-American society, as well as a somewhat self-ironic look at the artist caught up in today’s art market. In the video Sandstorm, a Bauhaus building from Dessau, Germany, is set down in the middle of a North-African desert storm. Similarly, collage works present tribal natives embedded in classical European interiors. The presence of indigenous art forms in an empty ‘collectable’ villa, built on the contours of modernism, creates a counter point for cultural assimilation. Daniel Pitin’s canvases often feature film-stage settings, as well as their literal disintegration in terms of the static image. The painting material in these new works has also undergone a transformation, a process of change, similar to the slowly evaporating emulsion of a photo-realistic image and its consequent abstraction.
