The NF Gallery – A new exhibition space in the city of Ústí nad Labem
The NF Gallery is an independent exhibition space which just opened in the North-Bohemian city of Ústí nad Labem. Its grounds are situated in the cellar of an apartment house close to the city center and the newly built university campus.
Opening a new gallery here reflects upon the somewhat monopolistic situation in the region and the local art traffic. The main efforts of the NF Gallery are:
– to disrupt the established, verified and “consecrated” stereotypes
– to eliminate the curatorship aspect in the traffic of the contemporary arts
– to lay emphasis on minimizing side operational costs linked with realizing exhibitions
The Gallery at the same time attempts at following the requirements of an independent space that would allow for realizing intimate projects of individual artists.
The NF Gallery is based on the idea of an exhibition program which is not precisely defined and which will be the result of the communication among the individual participating artists. Each exhibiting artist will address another one whom he or she selects for the next presentation and will hand him or her over the imaginary baton along with the information about the new space. The principle of both accident and succession shall thus generate an active communication platform independent of any basic theses and/or special curatorship focuses.
