The rectangular base, whose upper part represents a shallow water surface, bears a sculpture of pelican. The bird is executed realistically, after Nature, but it cannot deny a slight Art-Nouveau stylization. The sculpture is made of glazed ceramics and some parts are painted on glazing. The mark WKW suggests that the item on display is a product originating from the Viennese ceramic manufacture Wiener Kunstkeramische Werke and it can be dated to the 1920s. The initials AR on the base most probably belong to the author of the design.
