Portrait of Jakub Deml is totally exceptional in Nikl’s oeuvre because the artist almost never portraits particular personalities. Deml is featured as a fairy-tale creature clad in a hat of a poisonous mushroom or some kind of a saint radiating positive message. The artist never incorporates his scenes into concrete setting and, equally as in his other paintings, the portrait thus hangs in a colored, indistinct space.
