Robert Filliou

Robert Filliou (b. 1926 in France, d. 1987 in the same country) was member of the famous actionist movement, Fluxus. He was active as film director, action poet, sculptor and organizer of happenings. In 1963, he developed the concept called “Art’s Birthday”, claiming that no art had actually appeared for million years but was born on 17 January of the present year – all of which reportedly occurred at the very moment when a sponge was dropped into a bucket filled with water. Filliou’s oeuvre survived in the form of film documentaries and unique objects of museum value.
