Tomáš Hlavina

Tomáš Hlavina

Tomáš Hlavina is mainly involved in “classical” sculpture, albeit in the conceptual sense. In creating his sculptures, he follows detailed schedule whose sequence of individual steps can conceal various messages. Hlavina’s aim is not to display a complicated riddle to viewers: his work mainly answers the questions asked by himself. At a glance, some objects may appear as ready made – as if Hlavina solely removed them from their everyday existence and displayed them in a gallery. They are, however, artifacts composed of various thoroughly shaped parts. Hlavina imbues the marginal with new meanings, thus showing viewers many things around them which they usually fail to notice. His wheels, shovels, tablets and various appliances pride themselves with irreplaceable gentility and refinement. Hlavina’s aesthetics is based on authentic and almost invisible elegance.
