Andrea Cihlářová

Andrea Cihlářová

Andrea Cihlářová graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. There is no position which would be absolutely characteristic of the artist: she expresses herself via the media of photography, drawing, graphic arts as well as text. The outcomes which she leaves behind are talks, thoughts either commenting on specific moments or just spontaneously uttered. Her records concern hardly noticeable visual experiences but also subconscious thoughts expressed in words. The texts, which have their own visual quality, are not presented as minimalist objects but artifacts which are moreover legible. Cihlářová’s work has the rhythm of her life. It occurs in real time – in the speed of talk and walk, flowing simultaneously as the events around, and it is not conditioned by the requirements of durability. For Cihlářová, visualizing everyday experience does not mean the process of documenting but just certifying or doubting the sense of both things and human pursuance. Recently, the artist was involved in large-dimensional drawing and painting, influenced by the most contemporary attributes of visual media. We can see imprints of templates, most various signs and writing in the paintings. The drawings are, however, much more subtle and much more poetic, containing indications of the attempt to capture a certain uncontrolled component of perception.
